Jaguar Revealed the Name of Its Upcoming Electric Four-Door GT, and It's Pretty Uninspired
Jaguar says the Type 01 will use a 120kWh battery and more than 735kW of power as camouflaged prototypes debut at Monaco.
Jaguar announced its new luxury four-door GT, the Type 01, will debut as a camouflaged prototype at the Monaco E-Prix on May 16-17, evolving from the Type 00 concept.
Managing director Rawdon Glover explained the naming transition represents a complete brand reset, with the '0' representing electric propulsion and zero emissions, while the '1' signifies the first vehicle of a new era.
The production vehicle features a tri-motor all-wheel drive powertrain producing more than 986 horsepower and 958 pound-feet of torque, with a 120kWh battery reportedly capable of over 690km of electric range.
Engineers looked to 90 years of brand history to develop the vehicle, which features a "strikethrough motif" on the hood, marking a departure from the I-Pace SUV, the brand's only previous electric model.
Jaguar will fully reveal the production version later this year, with previous reports estimating a starting price around $130,000, replacing the cancelled X391-series XJ flagship initially planned for 2021.
