Jaguar Land Rover staff home for another day as company reels from cyber attack
The cyberattack, claimed by the Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters group, has halted production at major plants and paused operations for over 30,000 UK employees and thousands in the supply chain.
- On August 31, Jaguar Land Rover shut down its IT systems proactively to protect networks after a major cyberattack, halting production at sites in Halewood, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Slovakia, India, Brazil, and China.
- A group calling itself Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters claimed responsibility on Telegram, linked to Scattered Spider, Lapsus$ and ShinyHunters, and sought to extort money from JLR.
- The disruption is hitting JLR's workforce and supply chain, with the 30,000-strong workforce and suppliers including Evtec, WHS Plastics, SurTec and OPmobility pausing operations and costing £5m a day.
- The National Cyber Security Centre and law enforcement are now assisting JLR, which is working with third-party cybersecurity specialists while thousands of workers are paid and asked to 'bank' hours.
- Senior insiders warn recovery will take a matter of weeks, with planned new-model launches slipping and industry figures suggesting government support or intervention may be needed.
