Orioles Reinstate IF Jackson Holliday; Set to Make Season Debut
Jackson Holliday took ground balls and batting practice as Baltimore weighs a return from hamate bone surgery, but manager Craig Albernaz said he was not yet activated.
On Monday, Jackson Holliday rejoined the Baltimore Orioles in Tampa ahead of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays, though the organization did not activate the 22-year-old for the game.
Holliday has been sidelined since March 22 following surgery to remove a fractured hamate bone in his right hand, spending eight weeks completing multiple rehab assignments throughout the organization's farm system.
Across 22 minor league games this season, Holliday batted.176 with 23 strikeouts, though he showed weekend improvement by hitting a home run Saturday and a triple Sunday with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides.
Baltimore manager Craig Albernaz stated Monday that the organization is not committed to activating Holliday immediately, so Jeremiah Jackson remained in the starting lineup at second base for the series opener at Tropicana Field.
The son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday participated in pregame warmups with the team, signaling a potential return to the major league roster following his 2024 debut.
