Jack-Knifed Lorry and Fuel Spill Cause 'Severe' Delays on the M5
AA Roadwatch reported nearly an hour of delays as emergency crews closed all northbound lanes for cleanup and safety checks after the crash.
A jack-knifed lorry closed the northbound M5 this afternoon between junction 5 at the A38 near Droitwich and Wychbold and J4A M42, with emergency crews working at the scene.
Following a fuel spill on the road, officials deemed the full closure necessary for safety and cleanup, as images from the scene show the vehicle sprawled across the carriageway.
One motorist passing by around 3:30 PM reported "the tailback was only about two miles at the time but I think it's greater now," noting that traffic worsened due to rubber-necking.
Roadwatch reported "severe" delays and congestion extending to just after Worcester and Evesham, with the opposite side back to Bromsgrove and Stourbridge, as commuters face delays of nearly an hour.
Officials have not released details regarding the driver's condition or potential injuries, and it remains unknown when the northbound road will fully reopen as emergency crews continue work near the M42.
