Kalshi Valuation Jumps to $40B After Latest Funding Round
The company will expand into leveraged event contracts and perpetual futures after the round, which was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management.
New York-based Kalshi raised $1 billion in a new funding round on Thursday, reaching a $40 billion valuation as it expands beyond prediction markets into a multi-asset trading platform.
Explosive growth from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, NFL season, and election markets drove the valuation surge of nearly 82% since the previous $22 billion round five months ago.
Sequoia Capital and Wellington Management co-led the financing, joined by Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group. Kalshi reported that institutional entities represent 25% of total trading volume.
The startup plans to develop leveraged event contracts and perpetual futures tied to individual stocks, positioning it to compete directly with traditional exchanges CME Group and Intercontinental Exchange.
Earlier this week, Utah's attorney general brought criminal charges against Kalshi and two senior executives, alleging the company illegally promotes gambling. Critics argue prediction-market platforms resemble gambling and could encourage addictive behavior.
Kalshi raised USD 1 billion in a round that raised its valuation to USD 40 billion. The firm wants to expand its products beyond the predictive markets, while facing legal disputes in the United States.
