'We're Staying Calm', Say Irish Citizens in Gulf Region
Ireland advises 20,000 nationals in the Gulf to shelter in place amid ongoing missile strikes and closed airspace following US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
- On Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs urged Irish citizens in the Middle East to shelter in place, noting no evacuation routes are recommended and several hundred registered on the Citizen Registration platform.
- Following US and Israeli strikes on Saturday, Iranian missiles and drones entered Gulf airspace and were intercepted by Gulf air‑defence systems over Dubai, Doha and Manama, causing explosions and smoke.
- Residents said warning alerts came every 25 minutes, homes trembled, and about 20 projectiles appeared at once, while Irish diaspora estimates show 14,000 in the UAE and about 20,000 across the region.
- The department said it is in close contact with airlines and EU partners while receiving a high volume of calls, and McEntee confirmed on Sunday no Irish citizens have been injured.
- Residents were told to register at https://citizensregistration.dfa.ie/ and call +353 1 4082000 as officials said they would prepare for the next 72 hours, hoping the situation dissipates next week.
