Government Wants to Tighten Dual Citizenship Rules For Diaspora Armenians
YEREVAN (Azatutyun.am)—Armenia should toughen legal requirements for ethnic Armenian foreign nationals seeking to become its dual citizens, Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan said on Friday. Ghazaryan cited a sharp rise in citizenship applications received in the last few years. “Their number exceeded 32,000 in 2025, which is a record high in Armenia’s history,” he said, adding that most of the applicants are ethnic Armenians from Russia. …
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia recorded a record number of applications for citizenship, as reported by the Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Armen Kazarian, at a press conference, and noted that the majority of applicants were citizens of the Russian Federation of Armenian origin.
