Italy's Petrillo to be first transgender athlete at Paralympics
Valentina Petrillo will be the first openly transgender athlete at the Paralympic Games, representing Italy in the women's 200 and 400 meters races in Paris.
IPC President Andrew Parsons stated he wants the sporting world to “unite” on transgender policies, although Petrillo is welcome under current rules.
The IPC allows different policies for sports, permitting individuals legally recognized as women to compete based on their disabilities.
