ISRO quells concerns over growing private sector role in space tech

- The statement followed a letter from the ISRO Staff Association to Chairperson V. Narayanan requesting clarity on recent changes, amid media reports questioning the agency's future role and growing private-sector involvement.
- ISRO stressed that transferring mature technologies to industry enables "large-scale production," allowing its workforce to focus on "advanced R&D, technology development and national missions" including the Bharat Antariksh Station and Chandrayaan-4.
- While IN-SPACe facilitates non-government participation and NSIL handles commercialization, the agency emphasized that "ownership and control of critical national space infrastructure and strategic capabilities will continue to remain with the Government."
- India aims to grow its space economy share to $44 billion by 2033, creating a "larger, stronger and globally competitive Indian space ecosystem" where private startups and academia complement the agency's core capabilities.
