The Israeli authorities today detained a group of local officials and businessmen suspected by investigators of embezzling millions of dollars of war-time aid funds, announcing an investigation into a fraud case involving donations flowing after the Hamas attack in October 2023.
Along with the head of the local government, several businessmen and senior officials in the local authority were arrested. According to suspicions, donation money that came from sources in Israel and abroad for the benefit of the city's residents against the backdrop of the Iron Swords War and with Kalavi, was ultimately funneled into the pockets of the senior official and his associates.
