Israel receives another deceased hostage from Hamas, Islamic Jihad, three still remain in Gaza

  • On Nov. 13 the State of Israel received the remains of another hostage from Gaza via the Red Cross, which is being taken to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine for identification, the prime minister's office said.
  • The ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10 requires militant groups to return hostages under a U.S.-brokered plan, and Hamas returned all 20 surviving hostages on Oct. 13 in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
  • Islamic Jihad reported that the body was recovered in the Khan Younis/Morag area, handed to the Red Cross at a meeting point, then transferred by Red Cross vehicles to IDF and Shin Bet for forensic transfer.
  • If confirmed by Israeli authorities, three more bodies would remain in Gaza to be recovered, and confirmation would bring the tally to 25 of 28 deceased hostages under the first phase of the ceasefire.
  • Hamas says bodies are buried under rubble and heavy machinery is needed, while Israel has accused militants of partial remains and staging allegations; the ceasefire will not advance to subsequent phases until all remains are returned.
