According to the Times of Israel, Katz said that while the Israeli Air Force carried out the overnight strike, the operation was initially met with silence from the military before being acknowledged by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Israeli Minister of Defence blamed the US Special Envoy in Syria for criticizing an Israeli strike and claimed that the United States had been informed of this military manoeuvre.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense stated that it had informed the United States of its intention to attack Abu Duhur military airport near Idlib and that it had subsequently authorized the operation despite not receiving a response. Israel attributed the bombing to information about a possible deployment of Turkish troops, a version denied by Turkey and Syria.
