Deaths Across Middle East From US-Israeli War on Iran

The US-Israeli conflict with Iran has led to over 1,700 deaths and triggered a surge of more than 25,300 Islamophobic posts on social media, the US Center for the Study of Organized Hate reports.

  • CSOH found the dataset from January 1 through Thursday showed Islamophobic content reach rose to more than 279,000 mentions once reposts were included.
  • Following the strike on February 28, posts surged and users on social media adopted dehumanizing metaphors, calling Muslims 'pests', 'rats', 'vermin', 'parasites' and an 'infestation', CSOH said.
  • Platform data show that on X alone from February 28 to Thursday, users posted more than 25,300 Islamophobic remarks, and among 30 flagged posts, 11 were removed while 19 remained as of Monday.
  • CSOH warned the content acts as a call to action amid rising bias, and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation reported more than 200 complaints about US military commanders framing the war as 'all part of God's divine plan'.
  • Regional casualty counts show Israeli President Isaac Herzog told US business leaders 'You want a different future for the Middle East' and said sometimes hard steps are needed, as more than 2200 deaths occurred by March 9.
