Guardians, Rays ALCS Game 4 Delayed Due to Inclement Weather
MLB said the game will begin in a delay as rain and wind threaten the series, with Cleveland one win from a 3-1 lead.
On Friday, October 16, 2026, Major League Baseball delayed ALCS Game 4 between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field due to inclement weather, pushing back the originally scheduled 8:08 p.m. ET first pitch.
Cleveland entered the matchup with a 2-1 series lead after winning Game 3 on Thursday, a contest MLB had moved earlier from 6 p.m. to 1 p.m. to avoid evening showers.
Weather forecasts predicted a 50 percent chance of rain at 8 p.m. ET at Progressive Field, and grounds crews repeatedly removed and replaced the infield tarp as conditions worsened throughout the evening.
Rays manager Kevin Cash and Guardians manager Stephen Vogt held a 6 p.m. conference call with MLB officials to discuss weather conditions, with right-handed pitchers Nick Martinez and Shawn Armstrong scheduled to take the mound.
Should the delay force a postponement, the teams could play Games 4 and 5 in Cleveland before moving to Tampa for a potential Game 6 on Monday, October 19, according to weather reports.
