Is Manchester Airport Closed: Latest News as Police Attend Incident
Manchester Airport closed Terminal 2's upper and lower level forecourts on Wednesday following a police incident involving concern for a man's welfare on the upper storey, reports The Manchester Evening News.
Officers responded at around 8am to welfare concerns, triggering a partial airport lockdown during school half-term that backed traffic onto the M56 slip road and forced forecourt closure within an hour.
One airport visitor reported sitting 1.6 miles away for around half an hour, with passengers ditching taxis to reach flights on foot; The Bee Network reported 43 and 103 bus services delayed 30-45 minutes and 248 services diverted.
Manchester Airport redirected drop-offs to JetParks 1 with a five-minute shuttle service to Terminal 2 and pick-ups to Terminal 2 West multi-storey car park via Sydney Avenue, deploying additional staff to manage traffic.
Following the incident's conclusion, Terminal 2 forecourts reopened as usual and traffic gradually normalized, though passengers were advised to allow extra time for evening journeys despite flight operations remaining unaffected throughout.
