Iran targets US bases in Jordan and the Gulf after Trump orders strikes near Hormuz

Iran said it hit 21 targets after U.S. strikes, while Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait reported intercepting missiles and drones, officials said.

  • On Wednesday, the United States military carried out "self-defence strikes" against Iranian targets following the reported downing of an American Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, an incident President Donald Trump blamed on the Islamic Republic.
  • Retaliating for American strikes, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched drone and missile attacks against US-linked military targets in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan on Wednesday, confirming strikes around Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.
  • Kuwaiti army air defence systems intercepted "hostile aerial targets" on Wednesday, while the IRGC claimed its Aerospace Force destroyed F-35 fighter jet hangars and a command-and-control centre at an airbase in Jordan.
  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Iran would "leave no attack or threat unanswered," raising fears of escalation, yet retired US General Mark Kimmitt suggested the limited scope of strikes may indicate a containment effort.
  • Separately, Lebanese authorities reported at least 17 people killed in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, while the broader war since February 28 has driven up global energy prices and made basics including food more expensive.

Iran released a video claiming to have attacked US military bases in the Middle East. Iran launched a large number of long-range missiles for these attacks. Iran used solid-fuel missiles, which can be fired in a very short time, to attack the US base in Jordan. Footage shared by Iranian media IRIB shows the launch of at least 11 long-range missiles. A picture also emerged from Khomein, Iran, where Iranian ballistic missiles were seen in the sky.
