Iran says tankers exploded from Hormuz mines as U.S. strikes continue
Iran’s Guards said the tankers were forced into an unsafe southern route as U.S. strikes continued for a ninth day, raising shipping fears.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed that two oil tankers hit mines and exploded in the Strait of Hormuz, a claim denied by the U.S. military.
Iran has nearly closed the Strait of Hormuz for a week, directing ships to use northern channels near its coast and avoiding southern routes protected by the U.S.
In response to Iran's threats, the U.S. has reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and conducted nightly airstrikes to reduce Iran's control over the strait.
