Hawkeyes RB Kamari Moulton Is Out for the Season. Xavier Williams Will Start Against Wisconsin
Xavier Williams takes over after Moulton’s season-ending upper-body injury, and Iowa’s backfield depth will be tested against Wisconsin.
On Tuesday, Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz announced that running back Kamari Moulton is out for the season with an upper-body injury sustained during the Hawkeyes' 13-10 loss to Minnesota. Xavier Williams will start in Moulton's place.
Moulton left the Minnesota game in the second quarter and did not return, ending a season where he led Iowa with 90.2 yards per game and four touchdowns. His absence removes the Hawkeyes' top rusher at a critical point.
Coach Ferentz cast uncertainty on Phillips' status for this week's game against Wisconsin, saying he remains "day-to-day." Nathan McNeil and Braeden Jackson are listed as second-string running backs alongside Williams.
Wisconsin presents a significant challenge for Iowa's running game; the Badgers rank 16th in the FBS and have not allowed more than 154 rushing yards in a single game. Iowa must improve its ground attack without Moulton.
Phillips emphasized a "next man up" mentality, stating the team must "keep staying the course" and "buckle up" to execute their game plan. The depth group must step up for the remainder of the season.
