On January 5, 2027, President William Ruto announced that German football giant Bayern Munich will face Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam to open the new Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi.
Ruto promised a world-class stadium two years ago, launching the project in March 2024; the 60,000-seat facility along Ngong Road is Kenya's first international stadium built since Kasarani nearly 40 years ago.
Equipped with modern technology including VAR and goal-line technology, the venue features 52 sky boxes and is named after the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to honor his passion for football.
Kenya's opening match aligns with preparations for AFCON 2027, which the country will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
Known as Talanta Stadium, the facility reflects the meaning of 'Talanta'—talent—positioning Kenya to host leading international teams and develop youth football programs.
