The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has sounded the alarm about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen. 22 million people there are dependent on humanitarian aid, warned mission chief Abdusattor Esuv. That amounts to approximately half of the population of the poor country on the Red Sea.
Today, on Friday, the United Nations warned of a sharp deterioration in the humanitarian situation of civilians in Yemen, as operations along the west coast escalated, noting that the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance had risen to more than 22 million.
United Nations officials in Geneva warned on Friday that fighting in Yemen had exacerbated the already critical humanitarian situation in the country, where tens of thousands more people now needed assistance to survive. Abdulstar Issouf, head of the United Nations International Agency for Migration (IOM) mission in Yemen, said that 22 million people, almost half of the total population, depended on humanitarian assistance.
