Aid from Chisinau and Kiev will prevent Moscow from controlling the economy of the separatist region of Transnistria

The authorities of the Republic of Moldova are analyzing a plan to reintegration the separatist region of Transnistria, but its implementation requires considerable financial resources, which the country cannot afford, and would require changing the current peacekeeping mission on the left bank of the Dniester River with a civilian one, under the auspices of the UN or the EU, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said on Monday.

Ursula von der Leyen said that in the middle of winter, more than 350,000 residents of Transnistria were “left in the dark and cold” because Russia decided to stop gas supplies.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) say that the aid provided by Chisinau and Kiev to Transnistria in the context of the energy crisis will prevent Moscow from strengthening the economic dependence of the separatist region.
