IndyCar Leader Alex Palou Docked 5 Championship Points for an Assembly Error on Indianapolis 500 Car
IndyCar said the No. 10 Honda failed a front wing height check, leading to points deductions and a $10,000 fine.
- Following the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, IndyCar penalized 2025 champion Alex Palou after post-race technical inspections revealed his No. 10 Honda failed the front wing height measurement, falling below the required 8.3 inches per Rule 14.7.6.7.1.
- Chip Ganassi Racing disclosed a part failure in the front wing assembly caused the non-compliance, stating IndyCar officials determined the violation resulted from an assembly error rather than intentional modification.
- Palou was penalized five driver points, the No. 10 entry lost ten entrant points, and Chip Ganassi Racing was fined $10,000; the team stated it "did not attempt to gain an unfair advantage" and accepted the penalty.
- The penalty came during IndyCar's first year operating under its new Independent Officiating Board, with managing director Scot Elkins overseeing technical inspections as part of the structure designed to remain independent from parent company Penske Entertainment.
- Multiple technical violations at this year's race reflect stricter enforcement: Callum Ilott's Chevrolet was disqualified for wing violations, while Caio Collet and Jack Harvey faced post-qualifying penalties on May 17 for Energy Management System modifications.
