Indiana Sells Former GM Stamping Plant Site for $27M
Elanco Animal Health purchased the former GM plant for $27 million to develop a global innovation district connecting research, facilities, and community spaces, supported by state and university partners.
- The State of Indiana sold the former GM Stamping Plant site in Indianapolis to Elanco Animal Health for $27 million, moving the property into private ownership on Monday, Aug. 25.
- Once a 2.1 million-square-foot facility, the GM Stamping Plant operated from 1930 until 2011, with an industrial cleanup trust addressing its pollution before Elanco's 2020 announcement followed a scrapped May 2019 redevelopment plan.
- The new campus will employ about 725 people at opening, with Elanco Animal Health advancing a $200,000,000 investment and tax credits aiming to add more than 570 jobs over 10 years.
- Under the sale the State of Indiana will remain actively involved through the Indiana Office of Commerce, and Elanco Animal Health will soon break ground on its new headquarters.
- The project is designed to anchor an innovation district around Elanco's global headquarters, linking research institutes, pilot facilities, diagnostic labs and animal clinical care with housing, retail and green space near the Indianapolis Zoo and White River.
