Cabinet Approves ₹20,667 Crore for Semi High-Speed Rail Project Connecting Ahmedabad-Dholera
The 13-station project will link the expressway corridor to Metro, a proposed Bullet train stop and a freight line, officials said.
- On Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved India's first semi-high-speed rail project linking Sarkhej in Ahmedabad to Dholera, a 134-km double line costing approximately ₹20,667 crore.
- Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated the corridor, part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, will feature an operational speed of 200 kmph, reducing travel time between Sarkhej and Dholera to about 34 minutes.
- Construction will feature 13 stations with 74-km of elevated track on viaducts, and Indian Railways expects completion in four years while benefiting around 284 villages with a population of about 5 lakh.
- The line links the Dholera Special Investment Region, Dholera Airport, and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex, while the Cabinet separately approved a 30-year lease extension for MIHAN India Limited to modernize Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
- Planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the project serves as a pioneer model for expanding semi-high-speed rail networks while aiming to reduce logistics costs and carbon emissions across India.
