Independence Day 2026: President Murmu Approves 78 Gallantry Awards
The honours include 13 posthumous awards and span the Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces, the Defence Ministry said.
President Droupadi Murmu approved 78 gallantry awards ahead of India's 80th Independence Day, with the Ministry of Defence announcing the honours on Friday.
The list comprises nine Kirti Chakras, 19 Shaurya Chakras, and 36 Sena Medals for Gallantry, alongside three Nao Sena Medals and five Vayu Sena Medals.
Thirteen awards are conferred posthumously, including seven Kirti Chakras for personnel who made the supreme sacrifice. Havildar Gajendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Police members are among the honoured.
Beyond the gallantry honours, the President approved 89 Mention-in-Despatches for distinguished service. Army personnel recognized served across operations including Rakshak, Hifazat, Orchid, Meghdoot, and Snow Leopard.
Announced during Independence Day and Republic Day, these awards formally acknowledge duty performed in the line of service. The recipients include 75 Army personnel, four from the Navy, and 10 from the Air Force.
