- On Thursday, Mexican photographer Citlali Fabián was named Photographer of the Year 2026 at the Sony World Photography Awards gala in London for her series "Bilha, Stories of my Sisters."
- Now in its 19th year, the competition attracted over 430,000 entries from more than 200 countries, establishing itself as one of the most prestigious global photography contests.
- Fabián, from the Yalalteca Indigenous community, receives a $25,000 cash prize, Sony Digital Imaging equipment, and a solo showcase at the 2027 exhibition for work exploring identity and community bonds.
- Organizers also honored Elle Leontiev as Open Photographer of the Year, Jubair Ahmed Arnob as Student Photographer of the Year, and Philip Kangas as Youth Photographer of the Year, while Joel Meyerowitz received Outstanding Contribution to Photography.
- Visitors can view the winning projects at London's Somerset House starting today, with the exhibition of over 300 works running through May 4, 2026.
