The Syrian capital witnessed a large military parade today, organized by the Syrian army to mark the first anniversary of the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. The parade was marked by chants in support of Gaza, carrying clear political messages towards the Israeli occupation.
Leaders from other countries have taken the opportunity to commemorate the first year of this new phase of the country, although they also recall the challenges facing Damascus in terms of stability and security.
The Syrians commemorate today the first anniversary of the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime after opposition forces entered Damascus on 8 December 2024. On that day, Assad fled to Russia, while Ahmed al-Shara' took the lead in the transition after taking control of the capital.
