Iran Directing Hamas Money Network in Turkey, Moving Hundreds of Millions to Terrorists

The network channels hundreds of millions of dollars from Iran through Gaza-born operatives in Turkey to fund Hamas's terrorist activities, IDF and Shin Bet said.

  • On Sunday the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet said they uncovered a clandestine Hamas money-transfer network in Turkey operating under Iranian regime direction.
  • According to obtained documents, the money transfer system receives funds from Iranian sources, stores them, and forwards to Hamas to support operations and rebuild capabilities outside Gaza.
  • The IDF published the operatives' identities, showing three operatives, all Gaza-born, including Tamer Hassan, senior Hamas finance official in Turkey under Khalil al-Hayya, plus money changers Khalil Farawneh and Fareed Abu Dayer.
  • The agencies warned against maintaining ties with the network, and Israeli authorities stressed Hamas still pursues terrorist plots internationally while rebuilding capabilities outside the Strip.
  • Released files show only a partial sample of transactions, and Turkey and Egypt are set to discuss Gaza postwar efforts amid scrutiny of extensive financial activity in Turkey.
