A play featuring the creation of an embassy in Taiwan will be well held in Strasbourg, starting on Thursday, March 5. The Chinese consulate had tried to have it deprogrammed by addressing the theatre of the Maiillon and the town hall, the main funder of the hall.
The Consulate General of China in Strasbourg does not at all appreciate the programming of a show on Taiwan at the theatre of the Maiillon. He made it known to the city of Strasbourg and to the cultural place.
The Chinese consulate in Strasbourg called for the deprogramming of a play dedicated to Taiwan in the Alsatian capital. The mayor denounced a "extremely serious" intervention.
Strasbourg Mayor Jeanne Barseghian said the Chinese consulate pressured theaters in an attempt to prevent the performance of "This Is Not an Embassy," a play exploring Taiwan's situation, and condemned this "extremely serious" interference.
The Chinese consulate in Strasbourg attempted to deprogram Swiss director Stefan Kaegi's play on Taiwan, which the Maiillon presented from 5 to 7 March. The city hall and theatre objected to French law protecting artistic creation and diffusion.
