Iran Stages Mass Weddings for Couples Said to Have Volunteered for "Self-Sacrifice" in War with U.S.
State TV broadcast the ceremonies as authorities said 110 couples joined one Imam Hossein Square wedding and millions have signed up for the Janfada scheme.
Tehran hosted mass weddings on Monday as part of the Sacrifice for Iran event, combining traditional ceremonies with patriotic symbolism amid regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and Americans.
Couples signed up for the self-sacrifice scheme, known as janfada in Persian, pledging to put their lives on the line during the war by forming human chains outside power stations.
At Imam Hossein, 110 couples arrived in military jeeps with mounted machine guns for the ceremony, while the stage featured balloons and a lilac-colored missile, according to The AFP.
Iranian media broadcast the ceremonies on state TV to boost wartime morale, with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf among top figures supporting the initiative.
The event occurred amid repeated military threats from President Donald Trump and the continued public absence of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei since the war began on February 28.
