One month to the day after the eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise began, a lava flow passed very early on 13 March the RN2, nationale du Sud de l'île which connects the villages of Saint-Philippe and Sainte-Rose. A rare phenomenon that occurred for the last time 19 years ago, in 2007. The progression of the lava is slow, burns vegetation but does not threaten any habitation.
A month ago, the Réunion volcano ejected lava flows, two of which cut off the national road from the south to the east of the island, interrupting traffic.
