24 arrested in Cyprus immigration sweep – Famagusta Gazette
FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus immigration authorities carried out a large-scale operation targeting individuals residing illegally in the country, officials said last night. A total of 24 nationals from third countries were arrested for staying in Cyprus without legal status. Authorities added that since the beginning of the year, more than 6,000 people have been repatriated after being found to be living unlawfully on the island.
The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported today that it detained 1,490 foreigners in an irregular immigration status and repatriated another 1,300 during operations carried out yesterday in several provinces across the country. According to a press release, the operations were supported by the Army, the National Police, and other security agencies, and were carried out in Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Vega, Azua, Barahona, Dajabó…
