Illinois launches legal advice line for LGBTQ residents
IL Pride Connect offers free, confidential legal support for LGBTQ+ individuals statewide, backed by $350,000 in funding and partnerships with major community organizations.
On Monday, August 25, 2025, Illinois launched IL Pride Connect, a first-in-nation legal hotline for LGBTQ+ people reachable at 855-805-9200.
After the federal 988 shutdown, Governor JB Pritzker said the effort builds on the state's transgender and gender-diverse wellness and equity project launched beginning of 2024.
Operating Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the hotline offers trained advocates providing one-time legal advice or referrals in English and Spanish.
Backed by $250,000 state investment and $100,000 philanthropic support, the initiative includes Equality Illinois, Lambda Legal, Brave Space Alliance and features state funding commitment through next summer.
As the only state offering such a service, Illinois aims to build supports especially for downstate communities and respond to escalating legal attacks following federal cuts, advocates say.
