Illegal harvest of Yukon sheep leads to $100,000 in fines against Alaskan hunters
Two illegally harvested thinhorn sheep were returned to the Yukon Territory after a cross-border poaching case involving Alaskan hunters resulted in over $100,000 in fines.
Yukon Government, U.S. National Park Service, and Alaska Wildlife Troopers reported that enforcement officials returned the two sheep during a meeting in May.
Three American hunters pleaded guilty in Yukon court to unlawfully harvesting the sheep and were fined $10,000 each plus additional fines for meat waste.
The hunters were sentenced to five years probation, fined $5,000 each, and ordered to pay $58,200 in restitution to Yukon after related U.S. charges, highlighting serious consequences for illegal wildlife violations.
