Charitable Donations Fund Pizza Delivery Driver's Retirement After Good Deed Goes Viral
The fundraiser was launched after a viral video showed Dan Simpson buying the drink himself when Domino’s was out of Diet Coke.
- On Friday, Domino's delivery driver Dan Simpson went out of his way in Boise, Idaho, to purchase Diet Coke for customers Brian Wilson and Katey Wilson, with their Ring camera video amassing more than 2.6 million views.
- Because Brian Wilson and his wife are visually impaired, a simple errand can be difficult; they rely on deliveries, making Simpson's decision to stop at a store a significant act they felt deserved to be shared.
- Following the viral post, the Wilsons launched a GoFundMe to support the 68-year-old driver, and the campaign has already raised over $76,000, leaving Simpson "blown away" as he prepares for retirement.
- Simpson, who has delivered pizza for nearly 14 years, plans to use the funds for a trip to see Redwood trees in California and possibly Hawaii, saying "It took me about three minutes" and calling the effort "no big deal."
- Domino's stated they are "incredibly proud" of the driver, who plans to retire at the end of April yet intends to continue delivering pizza part-time despite the windfall.
