ICC denies ‘inaccurate’ report it is seeking new warrants against Israeli officials
Haaretz said the court denied the report as the ICC continues its active investigation into alleged war crimes in Gaza.
On Sunday, Haaretz reported that the International Criminal Court secretly issued arrest warrants for five additional Israeli officials, though ICC spokesperson Oriane Maillet denied the report, stating the court "denies the issuance of new arrest warrants" regarding the situation in Palestine.
These alleged warrants follow the November 21, 2024, issuance against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, after judges found reasonable grounds to believe both bore responsibility for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Separately, reports from the Wall Street Journal allege ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan acted as a Qatari agent, with Khan reportedly issuing warrants after a Qatari intelligence agent promised to "take care" of him if he acted against Netanyahu.
Each of the 125 member states would be obligated to arrest these officials if they enter their territory, though the United States, which is not an ICC member, "fundamentally rejects" the court's move.
This marks the first time since 2002 the court has issued warrants against leaders of a democratic state, whereas all 59 previous warrants targeted figures from countries like Russia, Sudan, and Congo, or terrorist organizations.
