IBM Introduces New Software to Address Growing Digital Sovereignty Imperative
IBM’s new software enables organizations to maintain operational control and compliance for AI workloads within jurisdictional boundaries, addressing increasing digital sovereignty demands.
- IBM unveiled IBM Sovereign Core, supporting deployment on-premises, in-region clouds, or via service providers, with a tech preview in February and mid-year 2026 availability.
- Enterprises and governments are seeking self-managed environments to retain operational authority as AI moves into production and sovereignty concerns extend beyond data residency, said Priya Srinivasan, General Manager, IBM Software Products.
- Technically, Sovereign Core makes sovereignty inherent to software, builds on Red Hat , and keeps authentication, authorization, and keys within jurisdictional boundaries using local GPU clusters.
- IBM says the product generates audit trails and operational telemetry within sovereign boundaries, helping clients move faster by combining openness, compliance, and operational autonomy.
- Of those surveyed, 61% cited geopolitical factors as a driver for local cloud providers, and analysts predict hyperscalers will offer similar sovereignty solutions, said Gaetan Willems.
