Hundreds of people from the wider center of Žilina in northern Slovakia were temporarily evacuated by authorities on Thursday due to the presence of an unspecified organic substance in the sewage system. Residents complained of a strong odor, and three women were treated at a local hospital. The city's mayor, Peter Fiabáne, ruled out that the alarm was caused by a gas or chemical warfare agent leak.
