TEXAS, JUL 15 – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is investigating over 100 potential noncitizens who may have cast more than 200 illegal ballots in recent elections to uphold voting laws, officials said.
- On Tuesday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said his office is investigating more than 100 potential noncitizens, citing over 200 ballots from the 2020 and 2022 cycles.
- Following access to the SAVE database under a Trump executive order, a referral from the Texas Secretary of State based on SAVE database matches triggered Paxton’s probe.
- Most alleged ballots were cast in Harris County, Texas’s most populous county, Paxton’s office is also probing cases in Guadalupe, Cameron and Eastland counties, and these ballots amount to about one-thousandth of 1% of votes cast.
- Vowing accountability, Paxton said `I will not allow it to continue`, adding that noncitizens who illegally cast ballots will face the full force of the law.
- Ahead of the special session, the Texas Legislature will consider a constitutional amendment on Monday, July 21, at 12:00 p.m., to empower the attorney general to prosecute election crimes.
