According to July data released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the budget balance and the primary balance (excluding interest payments) turned into deficits due to the sharp rise in central government budget expenditures and the increase in interest payments. Despite a year-on-year increase in tax collection, the budget deficit continued to widen in the first seven months of the year as a result of the rise in expenditure items.

Professor Dr. Hakkı Hakan Yılmaz stated that they expect the interest payments, initially set at 2.3 trillion lira, to reach 2.9 trillion lira by the end of this year. Yılmaz calculated the social improvements that could be made with the 600 billion lira to be paid in interest.
The central government budget recorded a deficit of 378.1 billion lira in July and 1.3 trillion lira in the first seven months of the year. Budget expenditures exceeded 10.5 trillion lira in the January-July period, while interest expenses increased by 43.7 percent, approaching 1.8 trillion lira.
