House of the Vettier in Pompeii reopened
The reopening of one of the best-preserved houses in the Pompeii archaeological site took place on Tuesday in the presence of Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano. The ancient owners of the house were Aulus Vettius Conviva and Aulus Vettius Restitutus. Their names were found on two bronze seals in front of a money chest in the main atrium. For the first time in years, the “House of the Vettier” (Italian: Casa dei Vettii) is once again open to visitors in the southern Italian excavation site of Pompeii. This is the house of a wealthy family of merchants in ancient Pompeii, which was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and was uncovered again during excavations. The house is relatively small, but representatively designed and has significant wall paintings.
