Mexico is winning the trade war through hospitality
Smiles, cooperation and lots of patience. That seems to be Mexico’s winning strategy for dealing with the US after US President Donald Trump’s administration declined to rubberstamp a long-term renewal of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) at the July 1 deadline, opting instead for annual review
Although the annual review of the T-MEC prolongs uncertainty and maintains U.S. tariffs, Mexico retains negotiating space by taking advantage of the strength of bilateral trade and avoiding confrontation with Washington.
