Kelowna Field of Crosses Returns to City Park for Ninth Year (Kelowna)

The public display includes the names of 227 soldiers, sailors and air servicemen and women, and it remains open through Nov. 12.

  • On Sunday, Nov 1, Kelowna opened The Field in City Park to honor 227 Canadian veterans who served in World War 1, World War 2, and the Korean War.
  • Keith Boehmer, chair of the Crosses Kelowna Committee, confirmed the installation is located behind City Park and will remain open to the public until Nov 12.
  • Many of the names on these Crosses represent individuals between 18 and 35 years old; the ceremony also honored four soldiers who died during a fire at CFB Wainwright last month.
  • Tom Dyas attended the opening ceremony in City Park to pay respects to Canada's fallen soldiers, encouraging residents to visit The Field and reflect on their service.
  • Boehmer noted that the living memory of war is receding in the community and urged residents to "remember what was done" by previous generations who sacrificed for a better future.
