Jimmy Lai, founder of Next Media, and others were previously convicted of "conspiracy to collude with foreign forces" and "conspiracy to publish seditious publications" under the Hong Kong National Security Law. Among them, the defendant who pleaded guilty, Lin Wenzong, the then executive editor of Apple Daily, filed an appeal against his sentence last Friday (6th), becoming the second defendant in the case to file an appeal.
