Tampa's four-goal second period surge, with three goals in the final five minutes, broke a tie and iced the game. The Lightning exploited defensive issues as Winnipeg, winless in seven games, struggled to contain Tampa's persistent pressure.
Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli each scored a goal and two assists, while Winnipeg's Neal Pionk, playing his 600th NHL game, scored twice. Goaltender Stuart Skinner allowed five goals on 21 shots before Nico Daws made his debut in the third period.
Following the loss, the Jets head to Florida to face the Florida Panthers on Friday. Tampa returns to the ice Saturday to face Steven Stamkos and the Nashville Predators in Nashville.
Right wing Nikita Kucherov was honored for passing Steven Stamkos to become the franchise's all-time leading scorer. Tampa's power play, previously operating at a 15% clip, continues to show improved cohesion as the team maintains its unbeaten home start.
