NatWest to close 32 bank branches
NatWest will close 32 UK branches due to a 63% fall in in-branch transactions, affecting elderly and vulnerable customers reliant on face-to-face service, the bank said.
- Recently, NatWest announced it will close 32 high-street branches across the UK, affecting locations from Hove to Halifax and London in the coming years.
- Citing shifts to mobile and online use, NatWest said increased demand for mobile and online services drove the branch network review and closures.
- The bank said the Kirkby Lonsdale branch is due to close on June 10, 2026, after averaging 116 personal customers monthly and seeing a 63 per cent drop in counter transactions; customers will be routed to Kendal, Lancaster or Skipton.
- Vulnerable customers face challenges as closures hit elderly and vulnerable customers, but NatWest will provide 12 weeks' notice and proactively offer support.
- Despite cuts, NatWest has closed 105 branches last year, over 1,000 since 2015, while sector rivals Santander and Lloyds also trim networks, with NatWest serving over 20 million customers.
