British Air India Crash Survivor Haunted by Nightmares Where 'Everyone Dies'
AHMEDABAD, INDIA, JUL 20 – Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the Air India crash, suffers from guilt and recurring nightmares amid an investigation pointing to pilot error causing engine failure.
- On June 12, Flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport into a hostel building, killing 241 of 242 onboard and leaving one sole survivor.
- Earlier this month, a 15-page AAIB report revealed cockpit confusion over fuel switches, with investigators suggesting Captain Sumeet Sabharwal may have cut power.
- On July 20, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh is struggling with psychological trauma, suffering facial and chest injuries and plagued by nightmares, his nephew said.
- More than 20 grieving families have sued Air India in the High Court to release pilot records, and a spokesman said the airline is "fully co-operating with the AAIB".
- Looking ahead, Indian investigators will deliver a full AAIB report next year as US authorities believe the captain was responsible for cutting fuel to the engines.
