Cargo Ship Runs Aground in Norwegian Garden, Narrowly Avoids Home

On Thursday morning, the 135-meter container ship NCL Salten ran aground near Johan Helberg's cabin in Byneset on the Trondheim Fjord.
The grounding happened after the ship, reportedly bound for Orkanger, approached the shore while the helmsman was likely asleep at the helm.
Neighbors heard the vessel approaching at full speed before it settled about eight meters from the wall of the nearby house with 16 crew aboard.
Helberg said the ship missed hitting a rocky outcrop and the house by only a few meters, and no injuries or oil leaks occurred despite damage to a heating pump wire.
The shipping company called the incident serious but unknown in cause, while authorities continue an ongoing investigation and refloating attempts have failed.
