Indicted terrorist commander allegedly spoke of wanting to target Ivanka Trump

Authorities say the alleged plot led to sharper protection at her family estate as investigators examined threats, maps and attack planning tied to retaliation for Soleimani's killing.

  • On Thursday, Iraqi commander Mohammad Al-Saadi was indicted on eight counts involving nearly 20 attacks and attempted attacks across Europe, Canada, and the U.S. He was extradited to New York City this month to face trial.
  • The Justice Department alleges that Al-Saadi "has furthered the terrorist goals" of Kata and the Revolutionary Guard since at least 2017. Kata is a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization operating in Iraq with ties to the Revolutionary Guard.
  • Prosecutors charged Al-Saadi with ordering attacks on U.S. bank branches and against Jewish people in several cities across Europe. The indictment includes allegations of a plot to target a New York City synagogue.
  • The New York Post reported Al-Saadi allegedly wanted to target Ivanka Trump in Florida, though the Justice Department omitted these plans from the indictment. Neither the White House nor the Secret Service responded to requests for comment.
  • Attorney General Todd Blanche stated the government looks forward to vigorously prosecuting the commander under American law. Al-Saadi allegedly participated in military decisions to attack U.S. and Israeli interests globally.
