Air Force helicopter makes emergency landing in DC
All four crew members were safe, and maintenance crews were set to inspect the aircraft Tuesday morning, officials said.
- A UH-1N helicopter assigned to the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Joint Base Andrews made a precautionary landing near the Georgetown Reservoir in Northwest Washington last night at 9:26 p.m. after the crew reported vibrating mechanical sounds.
- All four crew members safely returned to Joint Base Andrews with no injuries reported; officials confirmed no damage to the aircraft or surrounding property near Foxhall Road, close to the German Embassy.
- The Washington Aqueduct spokesperson Julius Delos Reyes confirmed water service remained unaffected, stating "It did not impact our water operations." The Aqueduct continues working with Joint Base Andrews to assess the incident.
- Maintenance crews arrived on Tuesday morning to examine the aircraft at the site and determine the cause of the vibrations. Officials stated "Joint Base Andrews takes the safety of the aircrew and our surrounding community seriously."
- The same Helicopter Squadron made an emergency landing on a farm in Carroll County in June involving a different aircraft, establishing a pattern of precautionary responses by the unit.
